Making others happy is wonderful; but how about YOU?

Nowadays we are all so busy…
We’ve got our family, our job, and yes there are days that they kinda feel like the same thing.
We’ve got our friends, hobbies, school, sports… The list is endless!

Let me start by saying that you absolutely rock! Because by being your awesome you, you always find ways to make it work.
Chances are that by the end of the day everyone is feeling fulfilled and taken care of, but your cup is empty.

Now let’s have a look at how you can change that.
Not by changing the conditions in your life, but by adding the Happiness Checklist to it.
A checklist that helps increase your ✨daily happiness✨ in just 5-10 minutes!

The “Helpers High”

There is this famous Chinese proverb

If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. 
If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. 
If you want happiness for a month, get married. 
If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody else.

I guess you can say that it’s something we have learned so early on that it’s better to give than to receive. 

Think about all the ways you can give! It can be as simple as the overlooked “being there for someone”. Think about visiting someone, providing family care, speaking on someone else’s behalf, or speaking to someone in real life or on the phone. 

People say that there is no better way than starting your day on a “Helper’s High”.
It’s how that awesome feeling is called that you get when you help others. That euphoria that happens when you do charitable deeds. Plus the best thing is, you can help others in every size & shape, big & small. The size or the amount of help is not so much the point. It’s all about the gesture of genuinely wanting to help. 

Helping others may just be the secret to living a life that is not only happier, but also healthier, wealthier, more productive, and meaningful! BUT… Is it really

I Mean, How About YOU?

Giving doesn’t always feel that great, now does it?
I’m sure it’s not just me and that you can relate that sometimes the opposite could be true.

Giving doesn’t always give us that “Helper’s High”. 
On the contrary, it can also very much make us feel depleted or maybe even taken advantage of. 

Do you recognize that little voice in your head that starts to speak up after a while?
That voice that recognizes all that you do for others and starts saying “But how about me?”

Simply because you can’t always be filling someone else’s cup all the time. Yours needs to be filled as well!

What matters is that YOU make the conscious decision to do something for YOURSELF each day. To show yourself that you are choosing yourself and that you matter. That you are ready to show up for yourself, just as much as you are showing up for others!

I fully agree, we need to nourish ourselves to be able to keep giving and create beautiful win-win situations, self-love is becoming more important as many realize how fundamental it is for true happiness, as well as for being able to love others.   2. Great reminder that you can’t pour from an empty cup! I loved how you pointed out that it is good to give other’s a chance to experience happiness by letting them help us also.

  3. It’s the flight attendants’ say on airplane that in case of emergency you have to put on your own oxygen mask before helping anyone else. You can’t pour from an empty glass so self-care and finding your own happiness are so essential before pouring into anyone else’s. Such a great reminder! Thank you!
