What are happy things

What are “Happy Things”?

What does it mean?

Honestly, I think “happy things” have a different meaning to everyone.
To me, it means “things” that make me smile, “things” that make me happy, “things” that give me a warm feeling inside, “things” that give me the feeling to be seen. The small “things” that keep me going, no matter how hard my day is.

When I’m talking about “things” I’m not just referring to materialistic things only.

However the definition of “things” is “an object that one need not, cannot, or does not wish to give a specific name to” according to Google for me, it’s more of a collective term of things, thoughts, gestures, moments and so much more.

How to plan happy things?

Let’s be honest our schedules are pretty full. Taking the time to relax and enjoy something isn’t something that always fits.
But what if there’s already so much going on right now, that will make you happy?

Happy things aren’t always big things or things you need to plan for. Happy things can also be about taking a step back and noticing what is happening around you. People smiling at you, a helping hand, the meal you just cooked, the view from your window, seasons that are changing and even seeing your neighbors cleaning the windows of their car when you don’t have to 😉 Am I right?

Happy things are also not only about receiving, giving can give just as much joy and satisfaction.
One of the things I noticed is that doing something small for someone else can be of great meaning for them. Just listening to them is one of the examples, or a hug or doing the dishes without being asked.

Nowadays we are so busy, that we forget to “see” the people around us. However, isn’t being seen something we all want at the end of the day?
For instance, the feeling that people notice us, appreciate us and that we matter? For me being seen is one of the things that keep me going, no matter what.

Some happy examples

Here are some of the things that made me smile over the last few days:

  • A thoughtful woman leashing her huge dog while I was running.
  • Beating a level of my Spanish course.
  • Brainstorming about a new adventure.
  • Enjoying trees in the Netherlands. Leafless trees aren’t really a thing in Taiwan.
  • Getting groceries for someone therefor, she had extra time to catch her breath.
  • Letting my nephew explain to me how to play with Lego.
  • Putting on my running shoes after being lazy for way too long…
  • Putting up the Christmas tree with my parents.
  • Spending Christmas with my family again after 4 years.
  • Visiting my godparents and thank them for being awesome.
  • Waking up and just think about the things I’m going to do today.

Enough about me, how about you?
